Remembering Saturday, April 18, 2009, the day our Green Valley Environmental and Health Expo was recognized as an official Earth Day celebration in California. We started off the day in the right spirit with a special Color Guard ceremony by our local Marine Corp. Recognition: State Senator Carol Liu presented a Certificate of Recognition on behalf of the Senate. She said, “Your contributions to the community will help create a healthier and a better living environment for all of us.” Also, in a Letter of Recognition, Pasadena Mayor Bill Bogaard stated: “The theme, ‘Our Actions Today Impact Our Options Tomorrow,’ gives the right signal to all of us regarding the responsibility to be stewards of the environment.” Assemblymember Anthony Portantino brought greetings from the State Assembly. And Councilmember Jacque Robinson offered opening remarks. Speakers: Thanks to our well-rounded expert speakers: Ruth and Joe Hopkins, owners of Pasadena and San Gabriel Valley journals; KPCC Radio Host Steve Julian; Keith Moo-Young, Dean of Engineering, Cal State LA; David Blekhman, Associate Professor, Cal State LA; Jerry Robin, Graphic Designer; Dennis Buckley, Chiropractor and Clinician; Larry Eisenberg, LACCD; and Steve Edberg, Scientist, NASA Jet Propulsion Lab. Together, you made the conference more than a marketplace; you made it a convergence of hearts, minds, and passion. And thanks to our MCs, Ed Robinson and Jean Young, whose wittiness and jovial personalities created a very inviting setting.
